The 48ᵗʰ Sagra della Zuppa (Soup Festival) in Aquilea, Lucca, will take place on August 1–3, 8–10 and 15–17.
In the spectacular location amid the hills of Lucca, in the coolness of the vineyards and expanses of the plains of the village of Aquilea, comes the annual tradition dedicated to Zuppa, serving up soup prepared exclusively with vegetables from local farms in the Morianese area, along with extra-virgin olive oil and wine from Aquilea producers. A dish that represents a real journey into the authentic and genuine flavors of the Lucchesia.
Aquilea’s Zuppa is the only soup acknowledged as a PAT (Prodotto Agroalimentare Tradizionale or, Traditional Food Product) by the Tuscany Region and is even included in the prestigious list of typical dishes of Vetrina Toscana.
Other delicacies can also be found at the food stands open from 7:00 pm as part of an itinerary that will delight the palate and revive the ancient and simple flavors of the past: Tordelli, Macaroni and Gnocchi made by hand with local products, grilled specialties such as chicken, ribs and sausages, meatballs, roast beef and tripe, along with vegetables, beans and fried pasta. To conclude are sweets including traditional Becchi Lucchesi made with vegetables, cream and chocolate. The wine and extra-virgin olive oil are strictly sourced from producers in Aquilea.
The entire festival is plastic-free and most of the food is Km Zero. The Comitato Paesano di Aquilea upholds the values of sustainable tourism, reducing waste production, not squandering water resources and limiting food waste.
Pets are welcome.
