The first clearly Renaissance palace built in Florence, the first Medici palace, the place where artists such as Donatello, Michelangelo, Paolo Uccello, Benozzo Gozzoli and Botticelli worked.
From March 30 to September 5, there is one more reason to visit Palazzo Medici Riccardi the exhibition "Luca Giordano. Baroque Master in Florence", dedicated to one of the most virtuoso and prolific artists of the Italian Baroque and his connection to the palace and to Florence.
The evocative exhibition itinerary focuses on the relationship that took place around the 1780s between Luca Giordano and the great Florentine families, who were ready to welcome the novelties of his painting by investing him with important executions and to whom the Neapolitan painter would leave important masterpieces on canvas and fresco destined to mark the history of Baroque in the city.
In Palazzo Medici Riccardi itself, two splendid testimonies can be admired: the vaults painted for the Galleria degli Specchi and for the Biblioteca Riccardiana.
The exhibition gives a view of about 50 works, from international private collections and prestigious Italian museums, some of which have never been seen in Florence before. Prominent among them are the series of ten sketches from the Galleria degli Specchi (from the National Gallery in London), placed for the occasion in direct dialogue with the frescoes of the vault.
Reservations are not required but strongly recommended.
The exhibition is organized by the Metropolitan City of Florence and Mus.e with the support of Business Strategies.
