The EcoMaratona del Chianti Classico is an environmentally-friendly running event that takes place each fall through the area of Castelnuovo Berardenga, offering participants the chance to run and walk along dirt roads and trails, through woods and past vineyards.
Created to showcase the scenic beauty, food, wine and traditions of Chianti Classico, it combines sports with exploration of the region through routes of varying lengths and difficulty, designed for both athletes and those who simply want to enjoy the experience without the competitive aspect.
The main event is the 26-mile or 42-kilometer EcoMaratona del Chianti Classico, a route that passes through several local wineries, including Poggio Bonelli, Castelli in Villa, Castello di Bossi, San Felice, Castello di Brolio, Villa a Sesta, Abbadia Monastero, Tenuta di Arceno and Fèlsina.
Alongside the main race is the 13-mile or 21-kilometer EcoMaratonina del Chianti, the Tra il Bosco e le Vigne del Chianti (Through the Chianti Woods and Vineyards) run and the 3×1-mile/1500-meter Staffetta (Relay) that takes place within the village of Castelnuovo Berardenga.
In addition to these are the Ecopasseggiate del Chianti Classico, being non-competitive walks open to all, so participants may explore the same landscape at a leisurely pace and discover the area from a different perspective.
The EcoMaratona is not just a sporting event but
is accompanied by social gatherings and side events that forge an opportunity to get together and celebrate.
Special attention is also given to respect for the environment.
The 2026 edition will take place from October 16 to 18.
