Processions of the Holy Week

Folklore

Easter events in Castiglion Fiorentino

Easter in Castiglion Fiorentino is alive with fascination, with traditional events that excite everyone, amid hooded figures and lit torches.

As per tradition, in the week preceding the feast day, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays (March 26, 27 and 29), Processions are held. Three events, one for each Confraternity, with hooded brethren who, torch in hand, move along the alleys of the historic center, carrying Crosses and simulacra. Great solemnity is also due to the participation of the band and its accompanying music.

The Processions:

  • Holy Tuesday
The first Procession starts from the Church of St. Francesco and is coordinated by the Confraternity of St. Antonio, dressed in white. The procession carries the statue of "Jesus in the Garden of Olives".
  • Holy Wednesday
The second Procession starts from the Church of St. Francesco. The confraternity of "Bona Morte", dressed in black capes, carries the statue of "Jesus bound to the column".
  • Good Friday
The most solemn Procession that starts from the Church of the Collegiate. The Confraternity of Jesus wears blue capes and carries the statue of "Dead Christ". On this occasion, the "Pious Women" carry, on the other hand, the statue of "Our Lady of Sorrows".
