"The festival of festivals": 9 international festivals for cinema lovers

The 50 Days of Cinema in Florence is "The festival of festivals" that brings cinema, in all its variety and splendor, to the city between October and December.

An intense program, which holds together important and historic international festivals, for 50 days of culture, art, events, previews, meetings with directors and actors.

The Festivals are held at the Cinema della Compagnia, in conjunction with other venues around the city on occasion.

The 2026 program includes:

  • Middle East Now - October 6 to 11:
    The Middle East told with a different and surprising perspective, beyond prejudice and stereotypes, with a strong focus on current events.

  • FánHuā Chinese Film Festival - October 14 to 18:
    A window into contemporary China. Meetings, screenings, events, guests and accompanying initiatives to learn more about China today and create a cultural bridge between the 2 countries.

  • International Film and Women’s Festival - October 21 to 25:
    Dedicated to cinema made by international female directors, with a special look at new female industry players.

  • France Odeon - French Film Festival - October 28 to November 1:
    Premieres of the best in French cinema, the most representative movies of transalpine film production, international guests, actors, cultural personalities, directors and screenwriters.

  • Festival dei Popoli - International Documentary Film Festival - November 2 to 8:
    The most important international documentary film festival in Italy and the oldest in Europe.

  • Lo Schermo dell’Arte - Contemporary Film and Art Festival - November 11 to 15:
    A selection of the best recent production of artist films and documentaries on contemporary art, meetings with artists, authors and curators.

  • Florence Queer Festival - November 19 to 22:
    The event builds on the experience of LGBTQIA+ people and allies to reach two diverse audiences—those eager to learn about queer issues up close and viewers keen on a program that speaks to their community.

  • River to River - Florence Indian Film Festival - December 3 to 8:
    A window on contemporary India, with a selection of the best films in competition, accompanied by the directors and actors. The event also offers a look at Indian cinema of the past by the great masters.

  • N.I.C.E. Festival for Irish Film Festival - December 1
    In collaboration with the Roman festival that has been bringing the best of Irish cinema to Italy since 2007.
