Vallombrosa, the wood of the monks
A full immersion to discover the most fascinating places of the Vallombrosa biogenetic reserve
Spectacular hiking itinerary in a place where nature and history express themselves with harmony and spirituality.
We will walk the beautiful circuit of the chapels in the silence of the suggestive woods of the Reserve, we'll admire the extraordinary panorama from Paradisino, visit places such as Giovanni Gualberto's fountain, the plague cross and the devil's rock. We will marvel at the spectacle of the Abbey's monumental kitchens, we'll see lesser-known places such as Acquabella Castle for a complete natural-historical experience in the mysticism of the Monks' forest.
We will reach the summit meadows of Monte Secchieta, admiring the Casentino side with its splendid ridge line from Consuma to Monte Falco and Falterona to Verna. We will stop for a snack with a homemade cake at the Refuge and conclude this wonderful experience.
Curiosity: The Paradisino is a place linked to the beginnings of monastic life at Vallombrosa, when it was the hermitage of monks particularly eager for solitude and intimacy with God. Today, it is a teaching venue for students of Forestry at the University of Florence.
The tour will take place on Saturday, 7 September at 09:30 a.m.
