Following this fantastic rout loop type inside the Berignone Nature Reserve, one of Tuscany's green lungs, we will discover paradisiacal river corners, intact Mediterranean maquis forests, surprising geological outcrops, ending with a refreshing swim in the fabulous natural pool of Masso degli Specchi!
We will begin with an easy ford of the Cecina River to take us shortly afterwards into the historic reserve, frequented by woodcutters and charcoal burners as well as a place symbolic of the Resistance.
Through a shady path surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, we will reach an extraordinary viewpoint from which we can admire the entire valley. Our itinerary will continue towards the Sellate Stream and the confluence with the Botro al Rio with its spectacular conglomerates.
We will ascend to the historic Castle of the Bishops (9th century): this is an ancient medieval fortress located in a strategic position with a turbulent past.
Finally we will arrive at our jaw-dropping destination, the stretch on the Cecina River where among puddles, natural pools and waterfalls we will stop at the Masso degli Specchi for a well-deserved swim.
