Accesa lake and Bruna waterfall
A route of extraordinary scenic interest
We will take part in an excursion around the beautiful Accesa lake, whose name, according to tradition, derives from the reddish glows that seem to emerge from its depths.
We will admire the beauty of the dark green waters of the lake, an important geosite formed by a complex karst depression. We will savor the atmosphere and history of the place as we walk towards the Archaeological Park, an Etruscan settlement that extends for several hectares. This archaeological site is favored by the proximity of mineral deposits of argentiferous galena, iron and lead.
Through an extraordinary campaign, modified by the Lorraine reclamation, we will arrive at the Forni dell'Accesa, another extraordinary geosite. We will admire the waterfalls of the Bruna river, emissary of Lake Accesa, with its three waterfalls and travertine formations. We will be amazed at the entrance to the Buca dei Forni and then we will reach the Ferriera Medicea. The latter represents an example of industrial archaeology, we will find its bricks, mixed with ferrous residues, accumulated in slag heaps at the Loppe di Fonderia.
We will continue reaching beautiful panoramic points north of the lake, towards Massa Marittima, saying goodbye to the countryside and the villages before concluding our extraordinary excursion
The tour will take place on Wednesday 01 May 2024 with departure at 9.00.
