The Mercure Petriolo Siena Terme Spa is located above Bagni di Petriolo in the town of Civitella Paganico, nestled in the Basso Merse Nature Reserve.
The earliest records of the Petriolo Baths date back to 1230, although the establishment is known to have existed since Roman times. The first spa complex was built during the Renaissance period, with the entire stone fortified structure still being visible today.
The Petriolo thermal water flows from the spring located on the bank of the Farma stream at a temperature of 109.4 °F (43 °C) and is rich in hydrogen sulfide.
This water holds a wealth of minerals, including hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, calcium, fluoride, chloride, sulfate and hydrogen carbonate.
Various therapeutic uses include skin problems (acne, psoriasis, eczema), musculoskeletal system issues (chronic arthropathy and osteoarticular diseases), as well as ailments related to the respiratory tract (pharyngitis, sinusitis, rhinitis).
The spa offers a path designed to stimulate and renew the entire body through an extensive range of treatments and services.
The various spa treatments include mud therapy to help reduce inflammation, relieve pain, relax the muscles and stimulate the immune system, inhalation treatments effective in preventing and treating chronic respiratory ailments, as well as massage therapy for a variety of fields, including rehabilitation, sports medicine, vascular and aesthetic medicine, as well as rheumatology, in helping muscle recovery and improving circulation.
Inside the spa complex are two thermal pools, two heated whirlpools, a sauna, steam bath, Kneipp path and sensory shower.
