A year of events and initiatives in the seven islands of the Tuscan Archipelago

The Tuscan Archipelago consists of seven wonderful islands, treasures of beauty and biodiversity, history, archaeology and traditions, set in a crystal clear sea.
A true natural paradise protected thanks to the establishment of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, whose protection covers a stretch of sea of more than 600 square kilometers.

“Vivere il Parco” (Live the Park) is the annual calendar that gathers the events to enjoy this precious treasure, to walk it, touch it, explore it, draw it, breathe it, taste it, navigate it, delve into it and love it!

An extensive and varied program of initiatives and events divided by categories (children’s activities, nature-watching, hiking, geo-experience, discover the sea, trekking with tasting, nature and history trekking) and seasons:

  • Elba Island

The largest island in the Archipelago offers a calendar of activities for all seasons, with experiences designed to discover the island by walking, observing, listening and learning.

In May, the Duna di Lacona becomes the starting point for a children’s activity, Quando gli alieni atterrano… sulla Duna! (When Aliens Land ... on the Dune!), talking in a simple and captivating way about biodiversity and alien species found in natural environments.
Also in spring, Trekking sul Sentiero dell’Amore (Trekking on the Path of Love) combines the pleasure of walking with the landscapes of the east coast, all the way to Agriturismo Le Sughere, where the experience ends with a tasting.

In summer, the program moves closer to the sea: the beach workshops and activities for World Oceans Day help young children learn about the marine environment, while activities focused on posidonia and snorkeling with a Park Guide allow participants to observe the richness of coastal ecosystems up close.
Those seeking more immersive experiences can try out trekking and yoga at Cape Stella, astronomical evenings under the sky of the island and whale watching in the Pelagos Sanctuary

Finally, in the fall, the landscape changes pace: trekking on the mining beaches with a geologist reveals Elba’s oldest soul, while the chestnut festivals in Marciana and Poggio bring the tastes and atmospheres of the season to the villages of Monte Capanne.

    Capraia

In Capraia, various initiatives are planned in spring and fall, while for summer, the calendar follows a weekly pattern, with events each day.
The idea is to discover the island in its most authentic dimensions, among trails, sea, geology, history and local flavors.

In spring, you can start with hikes to the Pozzalamone caves or along the Reganico Trail, where the richness of the natural environments becomes an opportunity to observe the island’s biodiversity.
The history of what was once an Agricultural Penal Colony is one of the main themes of the program. Some of the hikes pass through areas once associated with the colony and reach the location of Dattero, a natural outlook on the west coast, ideal for watching the sunset.
On other itineraries, the tour continues with visits to local producers.

In summer, the sea becomes the protagonist with seawatching zooming in on marine fauna, geowatching by boat to discover the volcanic coast and snorkeling in the island’s crystal-clear waters.
There is no shortage of slower and more sensory experiences, such as nighttime walks beneath the stars, yoga trekking and activities for children and families dedicated to the sky
Among the more locally related offerings are events dedicated to flavors, from honey to the plans of Mediterranean scrub and wines produced on the island.

    Giglio

On Giglio Island, the calendar alternates between seaside experiences, family activities and walking tours among villages, coastlines and terraced landscapes.

In summer, the sea is the starting point for many proposals. The sunset boat ride with Park Guide allows you to observe the island from a different perspective, while snorkeling activities and marine biology workshops bring people of all ages closer to the richness of coastal environments
For younger children, there are also weekly events dedicated to discovering nature, with simple and participatory activities together with a Park Guide.
Local flavors also enter the program, with visits to a honeybee farm and tastings in the vineyard, winery and orchard

In fall, the pace slows and the island is best traveled on foot, with itineraries such as the Giglio coast to coast and the loop from Giglio Castello to Capel Rosso amid seasonal colors and sea views.

    Pianosa

Once an Agricultural Penal Colony and maximum-security prison, the island of Pianosa can be explored via regulated routes accompanied by licensed guides
The calendar especially promotes guided visits of the island, with routes that weave together nature, archeology and memory.
You can book nature hikes, visits to the Agronomist’s House, the Museum of Geological and Archaeological Sciences, the Catacombs and Baths of Agrippa, as well as tours dedicated to the history of the former prison.
Off land, sea kayak trips, snorkeling accompanied by underwater environmental guides and diving in protected waters are also on offer.
Access to the inner areas of the island is regulated and, outside the village and Cala Giovanna, is only possible with a licensed guide, so people can get to know Pianosa while respecting its uniqueness.

    Giannutri

In Giannutri, the calendar revolves mainly around guided tours of the island and its archeological heritage
Visitors have the chance to discover Villa Romana, the Mosaic of the Labyrinth and what remains of the ancient residence overlooking the sea, with routes departing from Porto Santo Stefano or Giglio Porto, often including transfer by boat.
Among the most evocative experiences is the archeological sunset tour, which combines an exploration of the Villa Domizia and the Mosaic paired with a relaxing aperitif based on local products.
Alongside the historical-archeological visits, broader historical and naturalistic outings are also planned to get to know the small island of the National Park in its landscape and its environmental contexts.

Finally, we come to the little islands of Gorgona and Montecristo, with their special status, the former having once been the site of a penitentiary and the latter home to a State Nature Reserve. As such, visits are specifically restricted and regulated, always by reservation only.
