Among the vineyards and farms of Radda in Chianti

A looped itinerary to discover the area where the “League of Chianti” once reigned.
by  Chianti

A looped itinerary for Gravel or MTB riders that is not too challenging and will take you on a discovery of the beauty of the territory of Radda in Chianti, the ancient home of the Lega del Chianti (League of Chianti) municipalities, beginning with this small and charming village.

The route has a total length of 19 miles (31 kilometers), which can be covered continuously or broken into 2 stages, with a stop in Lecchi in Chianti, a small hamlet that invites you to take a restful break and enjoy a little relaxation.

Departing from Radda, you will immediately cover a steep descent only to climb up again to the Badia a Coltibuono junction. Between stretches of dirt and asphalt, proceed to Castello di Ama, one of the most renowned wine farms in Chianti and home to an interesting private collection of contemporary art. Peddling on, you will next reach Lecchi in Chianti.

Here, it is possible to stop for a little rest or some refreshments, perhaps visiting the Pozze di Lecchi spring water basin. Legend has it that the treasure of a Chianti brigand was hidden right here! Alternatively, you can reach the village of San Sano to admire the statue of the Rana Beona, a fountain depicting a frog drinking wine.

Back on your bike, the route continues along an easy asphalt path where you can admire the Chianti Mountains until coming to the Molinlungo junction. From here, the dirt road climbs up to the Badia a Coltibuono junction before returning to Radda in Chianti and completing the loop.

At this point, you can finally rest, visiting the village and enjoying Tuscan specialties, perhaps accompanied by a good glass of Chianti Classico.
