Along the rivers, among the villages of the Casentino

Start in Corsalone, in the municipality of Ortiggiano Raggiolo, to tackle a well-balanced, comprehensive and smooth loop that showcases the best of the Casentino Valley on dirt bike paths surrounded by nature, a scenic climb through ancient villages and a relaxing finish. This is the kind of trip to enjoy at your own pace, stopping whenever the scenery becomes irresistible.
Right from the start, take the Teggina bike path that gently winds along the course of the stream. This stretch, characterized by a firm, smooth surface, is ideal for cycling in complete safety and away from traffic, immersing you in an almost ethereal atmosphere created by the shade of the riverside vegetation and the soothing sound of the water.
Once you reach Ortignano Raggiolo, veer away from the bike path to tackle a scenic paved climb that connects the Teggina Valley to the main valley. Prepare to up the effort even as the physical strain starts setting in, rendering this climb the most technically challenging part of the tour but also one of the most scenic. The road winds its way through dense forests and open stretches, offering increasingly expansive views of the Casentino.
The climb finally takes you to the highest point of the day (the village of Casalte) at an elevation of 690 meters/2264 feet, before you begin a long descent toward Pieve a Socana then finally to Rassina, where the landscape opens up again onto the valley floor. From here, continue cycling along the unpaved Arno Bike Path—a flat, very smooth final stretch that takes you back toward Corsalone, passing through open fields, rows of trees and under boundless skies, for a peaceful and beautiful return journey.
To round out the itinerary, we suggest a few stops and highlights you won’t want to miss: a relaxing ride along the Teggina and Arno Bike Path, a stop to explore the picturesque village of Ortignano and an unmissable visit to the archaeological site of Pieve a Socana.
