Tuscany Medieval Festival

The Tuscany Medieval Festival is coming to Monteriggioni Castle for the 1ˢᵗ time on Friday, October 2, Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

Over 3 days, the village, campground and path leading to the Castle will be a buzz with military encampments, a historic market, an educational area, performances, demonstrations, tournaments and activities for adults and children.

From 4:00 pm to midnight on the Friday, visitors will be able to tour the encampments, the educational area and the historic market. The program also includes flag-throwing performances, falconry, military demonstrations and, at 10:00 pm, concerts by a trio of bands inside the village.

On Saturday afternoon, the event gets into full swing with the reenactment of the siege that followed the Pazzi Conspiracy that took place in June 1479. War machines, archers, artillery personnel and knights will reenact an episode from Monteriggioni’s history, with a battle that will begin in the afternoon and continue into the evening.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, the 6-rider horse joust—one of the largest in Italy in terms of the number of participants and the style of combat—will also take place. 6 riders from different countries will face off in full-contact matches to win the tournament. For the 1ˢᵗ time in Italy, a woman will also be participating in the full-impact joust.

Slated for Saturday and Sunday is the Buhurt International Circuit, a full-contact medieval combat sport. The tournament, organized by Magna Carta, will feature fighters from all over the world.

The shows will continue until midnight on all 3 days. The event will conclude on Sunday, October 4, with the Grand Finale Gala and a fireworks display.

Throughout the festival, the areas dedicated to education and hands-on activities will be open at all times, featuring historical games and archery. There will be plenty of food and drink options, featuring artisanal and local products.
