Folklore

In Bagno a Ripoli, delve into the Middle Ages and the Renaissance

In the gardens of Bagno a Ripoli, the Torneo della Lega di Ripoli (League of Ripoli Tournament) will take place on May 23 and 24, over the 4ᵗʰ weekend of May, as tradition dictates.

During the 2-day event, visitors will be immersed in the atmosphere of a “multi-epoch” historical encampment, divided into Medieval and Renaissance sections. Historical reenactment groups from all around Italy will enliven the field with their performances, interacting with the public and giving people the chance to try their hand at various disciplines, such as archery, fencing and historical dance.

Masters of falconry, combat, juggling and historical folk dances will take place throughout the 2 days. On Saturday evening, an engaging juggling and acrobatics show will take place, featuring knife throwing and fire displays.

There will be opportunities for children and teens to attend small-scale educational workshops on a range of activities, such as pottery, weaving, and ancient writing.

On Sunday, the competitions for the various disciplines conclude, with the main event being the Musicians and Flag-throwers Tournament, followed by an awards ceremony, enriched by other evocative occasions for entertainment and fun.
