Monte Sumbra, Tuscany's Half Dome
This mountain in the Apuan Alps is waiting for us with open arms: a crouching giant with its head to the west.
On this day hike, we’ll ascend through a stunning beech forest until the landscape begins to change. Suddenly, the magic unfolds: we find ourselves atop a dramatic cliff, plunging hundreds of meters below. In front of us, the imposing silhouette of Mount Sumbra rises with its breathtaking southern face.
The hike continues to a gentle, grassy summit that offers a sweeping panorama over northern Tuscany, stretching as far as the Tyrrhenian Sea and the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago on clear days.
The excursion is suitable for hikers in good physical condition. The trail is well marked and non-technical, except for a short, slightly exposed section that is easy to navigate.
