Hike & olive oil tasting in Chianti

Our hike will start at a beautiful historic estate of the 15th century, a few kilometers from the city of Florence, on the hills of Reggello (the “city of oil”), in the heart of the Florentine Valdarno.

Surrounded by the Natural Reserve of Vallombrosa, the forest of Sant’Antonio and the Balze Natural Protected Area, we will set out on an enchanting path to discover the Castle of Sammezzano, a palace in eclectic style, with a prevalence of Moorish and orientalist decorations, whose mix of architectural styles makes it unique in the world, and to admire the largest park of secular sequoias existing in our country: the first ones were planted around 1850 and still today we can see them in their magnificence.

We will then hike back to the farmhouse to begin the second part of the experience, visiting the three olive oil mills, one of which dates back to the 16th century, and the monumental cellars. We will taste the organic extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality produced from the 14.000 plants of the estate, whose olives are harvested with a method that combines innovation and tradition and that sees the collaboration of shakers and expert hands.

Finally, we will delight ourselves with some typical Tuscan dishes combined with the local Chianti wine of the farm, whose production area falls within the Chianti Colli Fiorentini appellation, and we will end our lunch with a touch of sweetness tasting Vin Santo and cantuccini.
