The Sala della Memoria (Hall of Remembrance) in Civitella in Valdichiana, located in Piazza Martiri, was inaugurated in 2004 on the 60th anniversary of one of the bloodiest Nazi massacres in Italy.
On display inside the room are artifacts found on the victims, numerous photographs of the village before and after the destruction suffered during World War II, archival documents, historical research, testimonies, judicial inquiries, books and videotapes collected over the years. There are also war materials and other items linked to the tragic event of June 29, 1944, which claimed the lives of 244 people.
Managed by the Associazione Civitella Ricorda, the Hall of Remembrance has welcomed various distinguished guests over time, including Presidents of Italy Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and Sergio Mattarella.
