Civico N°1 (house number 1) is the name of the project 'hospitality in Ricettività Diffusa' by the Cooperativa di Comunità Davide Lazzaretti in the municipality of Roccalbegna. An innovative 'Made in Italy' type of accommodation that, by reopening the doors of unused houses to visitors, follows and supports the lifestyle in the historic center of Roccalbegna.
La Casa al Cassero offers a minimalist yet fully equipped 23-square-meter studio apartment. The apartment has been recently renovated with dedication, taste, and attention to detail. It features heat pump heating, a TV, an induction plate, and a bathroom entirely covered in mosaic with a large modern shower. In the outdoor space for exclusive use, you can enjoy the shade of a pergola equipped with light, table, and chairs during the summer.
On request, you can use the tavern downstairs. It has a sofa, a large table with a bench, a second TV, and a bathroom.
From the apartment window, you can see the promontories overlooking the Albegna River: Poggio Piantuma and Poggio Crivello. When you climb the external staircase to the entrance of the house, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the entire village, with a stunning perspective on La Pietra.
The Casa al Cassero is named after the fortification above it, which was an ancient lookout point and is now a public scenic garden donated to the people of Roccalbegna.
The Cassero Senese, built by the Aldobrandeschi in the 13th century, was remodeled by the Sienese during their rule. The Sienese connected it to La Pietra, a rocky spire about 60 meters high on which another medieval fortress is built, with walls. Today, a section of the walls remains, including the Porta di Maremma and the Torricelle.
