From the medieval village to the WWF Oasis of the Rocconi Nature Reserve
The trail starts from the small piazza in Rocchette di Fazio, a medieval village in the municipality of Semproniano.
Take the road to the right of the restaurant and immediately turn left onto the first country lane you encounter. From there, you can follow the red signs. The route has a medium degree of difficulty due to the elevation gain of about 656 feet (200 meters) on the 1.9-mile (3-kilometer) course. The itinerary crosses part of the old Salt Road and continues on a dirt road until reaching the Caese, which flows into the Albegna River, in front of the canyon of the Rigo Stream (marked red and white).
The area is characterized by an extremely varied geomorphology with very high cliffs of massive limestone and deep gorges partially covered with holm oak. Continue several hundred feet and you enter the WWF Oasis of the Rocconi Nature Reserve, where hiking is possible upon reservation. The trail is not looped but travels the same path outbounds and inbounds.
