The Mugnone Valley is wedged among the surrounding hills and the confluence is Ponte alla Badia, which divides the tough climbs that lead to… Europe! Leading European institutions are located here. On the left, the road climbs up to the striking Badia Fiesolana, a church with a Romanesque façade and the outpost of the Istituto Universitario Europeo.
The other direction, which is the route we’re taking, involves a hard climb up via Salviati, with a gradient of up to 20%. It skirts the turreted Villa Salviati, headquarters of the European Union Archives.
At the end of the climb, turn onto via Bolognese and head downhill to the Ponte Rosso area among Florence views and villas.
