Infiorata in Scarperia

Folklore

45ᵗʰ edition of the exhibition of floral paintings created on the streets of the historic center

On May 24, the penultimate Sunday of the month, Scarperia once again is embellished by flowers for the 45ᵗʰ edition of Infiorata.

The streets and squares of the historic town center will be adorned with floral paintings representing a common theme.

Preparations for Infiorata begin sometime earlier and involve many locals. Having chosen the theme and executed the design on paper, the subject is reproduced in chalk on the stones, streets and squares. The night before comes the preparation of the flowers to be depetaled. The next morning, the day of the Infiorata event, a layer of glue is applied to the design surface and, finally, the patient and careful arrangement of the petals, providing an opportunity to observe this creative work.

The streets and squares of Scarperia’s historic center are embellished with works ‘painted’ in the colors available in nature—the hues of carnations, the shades of greens and browns of leaves—to create an evocative and unprecedented vision of the ancient medieval village.

For the 45ᵗʰ edition, the theme will be “Collodi and the Adventures of Pinocchio.”

The initiative will take place on Via Roma and in the 2 main squares of Piazza Clasio and Piazza dei Vicari. The designs shall be created by the districts of Via Roma and of the Scarperia Elementary and Middle Schools.

Attendance is free.
