Many initiatives are planned in Prato again this year for the Christmas season. The city is cloaked in the light of Christmas as it prepares to offer up the magic of the holidays with over 70 events counting concerts, choirs, street performances, dance, music and theater for young and old alike.
Itinerant choirs and bands will resonate throughout the downtown streets and squares with traditional carols, swing, jazz, gospel and spiritual notes, along with street performers, acrobats and puppets, the ancient carousel with horses in Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri, “selfie points” with illuminated decorations for Christmas-themed shots in Piazza Duomo, Piazza Mercatale, Piazza San Francesco and Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri, while a road train will travel along the downtown streets.
It all starts on November 29 at 4:00 pm with the lighting of the Christmas tree in Piazza del Comune and illuminations with Carols Under the Tree.
On December 19 at 5:00 pm, the Orchestra Chiti’s time-honored tradition of well-wishing the city will be renewed in the Council Chamber of the Palazzo Comunale.
From 5:00 pm on December 21, departing from and arriving in Piazza Santa Maria delle Carceri, a White LED Christmas Parade will travel the streets, comprised of men in coattails and ladies dressed in white, seeming to float through the crowd to the sounds of Christmas music.
At the Teatro Politeama, there will be gospel music from the Harlem Gospel Choir on December 22, acrobatic dancing with The Black Blues Brother on December 27 and the traditional New Year’s Eve Concert of the Camerata Strumentale di Prato on December 31.
The New Year will be heralded in with a New Year’s Concert by the Orchestra Chiti in the atrium of the Prato Centrale train station from 5:00 pm.
To end the holidays on a happy note, there will be the new magic and illusionism show by and with Mattia Boschi at Garibaldi Milleventi on January 5 at 4:30 pm.
