In Castiglion Fiorentino, Easter is a unique experience blending spirituality, history and centuries-old traditions. During Holy Week, the village is transformed as the alleys of the historic center become the route of evocative processions involving the ancient local Compagnie.
The program:
- Holy Tuesday opens the celebrations with the procession of the Compagnia di San Antonio, carrying the statue of Jesus from the San Francesco Church to the Olive Grove.
- Holy Wednesday sees the Compagnia della Bona Morte take center stage, adorned in black robes and conducting a statue of Jesus tied to a pillar.
- Good Friday is the most anticipated occasion, with the solemn procession of the Compagnia del Gesù parading Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows among torches, brethren and the notes of the band.
- At midnight on Holy Saturday, the spectacular “Volata” is celebrated in the Collegiate Church, where the statue of Risen Christ is rushed to the high altar amid trumpet blasts and much festivity.
Easter in Castiglion Fiorentino means being immersed in the most authentic Tuscan tradition, in an atmosphere of intense involvement and profound spirituality.
