You can visit the Giovanni Boldini exhibition at the Cavallerizza in Piazzale Verdi, Lucca, until June 2, 2026. La seduzione della pittura (The Seduction of Painting).
The exhibition gathers together more than 100 works from major public and private collections, including the Uffizi Galleries and the Giovanni Boldini Museum in Ferrara.
The itinerary celebrates Boldini as a master of Belle Époque portraiture and narrates the evolution of his painting through continuous aesthetic research and deep psychological study, particularly of female beauty.
The exhibition is divided into six sections spanning the artist's entire career: from works from the Florentine period in a dialog with the Macchiaioli painters, to scenes of his early Parisian years, iconic life-size portraits of femmes fatales and the atmospheres of fin de siècle artistic style.
Masterpieces on display include Portrait of a Lady with a Black Feather Fan, The Countess Speranza and the rarely exhibited In Conversation.
Alongside Boldini's works are works by artists contemporary with him, including Odoardo Borrani, Vittorio Matteo Corcos, Giuseppe De Nittis, Vincenzo Gemito, Paul César Helleu, Antonio Mancini, Telemaco Signorini and Federico Zandomeneghi, which helps to contextualize the figurative landscape between the 19th and 20th centuries.
Completing the exhibition are a selection of works on paper and a spectacular set-up that accompanies visitors through an evocative atmosphere.
The exhibition is open daily from 10 am to 8 pm - last admission is at 6.45 pm.
