On September 10, at 9:00 pm, exactly 45 years after its first concert, the Orchestra della Toscana (Orchestra of Tuscany, or ORT) celebrates this important anniversary with a special evening in Florence’s extraordinary Basilica of Santa Croce.
An off-season event, strongly anticipated and loaded with meaning, juxtaposing two pages of the highest symbolic value: the Marche religieuse by Luigi Cherubini and Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with Diego Ceretta, Principal Conductor of the ORT, at the helm. Two works that differ in context and language but share the same spiritual tension, capable of dialoguing in the name of memory and transcendence.
Performing them is an outstanding vocal cast: Francesca Pia Vitale (soprano), Eleonora Filipponi (mezzo-soprano), Dave Monaco (tenor) and Francesco Leone (bass), joined by the Harmonia Cantata Choir, arranged by Maestro Raffaele Puccianti.
Admission is free upon reservation, as an offering of gratitude to the public, the community and the area that have supported and shared the Orchestra’s journey over the past 45 years. Founded in 1980, the Orchestra of Tuscany today represents one of Italy’s leading musical entities, recognized for its high artistic quality, versatility of repertoire and constant attention to young talent. For the ORT, returning to perform such a powerful score in one of the city’s most emblematic churches is a way to honor its roots while strongly reaffirming an artistic identity in constant flux.
