From April 2 to August 25, 2026, Florence’s Palazzo Medici Riccardi is hosting the exhibition Firenze Déco – Atmosfere degli anni Venti (Atmospheres of the 1920s), dedicated to one of the most intense seasons of 20ᵗʰ-century art and craftsmanship.
Through an extensive display, the exhibition restores to the public the central role of Florence in the spread of Art Déco in Italy and Europe.
Arising in the aftermath of World War I, the Déco style became the visual language of the Roaring 20s, an expression of a widespread desire for modernity, elegance and renewal.
The account unfolds over a decade of extraordinary creative ferment, in which Florence was established as a refined laboratory of applied arts, fashion, design, theater and decorative arts. Ceramics, glassware, furniture, jewelry, textiles, clothing, posters and stage costumes allow you to enter the spirit of the time, bringing into dialog the artists and their creations, capable of renewing tradition with a view open to the avant-garde and international tastes.
The itinerary proposes a broad and non-localist reading of Florentine Déco, highlighting its national and international relevance and the city’s original contribution to a movement that profoundly marked the aesthetics of the 20ᵗʰ century.
