The Foundation Santa Maria Nuova is organizing a program of guided tours at the Antica Spezieria of Spedale Serristori (Ancient Pharmacy in the Serristori Hospital) in Figline and Incisa Valdarno, located inside the Villa of San Cerbone, now the site of a modern hospital.
Founded in the central Piazza Marsilio Ficino in 1399 following the bequest of Ser Ristoro, the hospital - then called the Ss. Annunziata - was moved in 1890 to its current location, formerly the 15th-century residence of the Serristori family. A place rich in art and history, which it is possible to visit thanks to a new museum itinerary.
Guided tours will start from the outside of the Villa San Cerbone and will continue in the church cloister and end at the ancient apothecary shop where visitors can admire the precious collections of majolica from Montelupo (16th - 18th centuries), the collection of medicinal glass containing residues of mixtures used for medicinal purposes, as well as furnishings and paintings from this treasure chest that preserves centuries of history.
