The Festa dei Rioni in Casciana Terme is an event involving the entire community, combining tradition, fun and a competitive spirit. Each year, the town’s 4 rioni (districts) of Casina, Gorina, Centro and Pietraia compete in a series of events ranging from traditional games to colorful parades, creating an atmosphere that attracts residents and visitors alike.
The festival is held in conjunction with the Festa di Santa Croce beginning on May 2, extending through the following weekend on May 8, 9 and 10.
Events kick off with a series of activities that create a big party atmosphere. The blessing of the banners and teams marks the official start of the festivities.
Next come the youth competitions, such as the women’s tug-of-war and relay, which start an intense series of trials that will be repeated in the following days.
During the festival, the various districts face off in knockout rounds that test not only physical strength but also strategy and cooperation.
The no-holds-barred games are thrilling events that involve young and old alike. Among the most adrenaline-inducing events is the gripping Corsa dei Carretti, a type of carriage race.
But it is not only the competition that makes this festival great. The tradition of parades for each district is one of the highlights of the event, with floats and costumes that tell stories in a procession of colors, sounds and dances.
