Settembre Ascianese

An explosion of colors, scents, delight and traditions that runs through the entire municipality of Asciano, involving citizens and visitors in a unique atmosphere.

During Settembre Ascianese (Ascianese September), the town is transformed, seeing every street, piazza and contrada become a stage for events, celebrations, entertainment and culture. It is a time when past and present come together, resulting in a rich calendar of events designed for all ages.         

Religious festivals open the month with solemn processions, heartfelt celebrations and occasions for recollection that testify to the deep spirituality that has long animated Asciano.     

But the beating heart of the event consists in the contrade (the historic districts) bringing to life festive evenings with outdoor dinners, music, popular games and moments of conviviality that celebrate the identity and warmth of our people.                                                                                                                                   

The Palio dei Ciuchi—a traditional donkey race—is the highlight of the month. A race as exhilarating as it is passionate, in which the contrade compete by riding friendly donkeys, amid cheering, merriment and a competitive spirit. 

There is also no shortage of space dedicated to art and culture, with exhibitions by local artists, displays, installations and activities designed for even the youngest attendees, such as creative workshops, shows, games and entertainment.
