From October 1 to November 27, Siena Awards - the Festival of Photography and Visual Arts - returns, with a new edition full of exhibitions, initiatives and great names of international photography.
Siena once again becomes a meeting place for thousands of professional photographers, enthusiasts and young talents, involved in a programme that includes workshops, photo tours, seminars, conferences, shows and guided tours to discover the territory.
The 2021 edition has toured the world, with the planetary success of the winning image - "Hardship of Life", taken by Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan - that changed the lives of a Syrian child and his father, victims of the extremely serious consequences of war, thanks to the international solidarity activated following its publication.
The protagonists of the 2022 edition will be Indian photographer Danish Siddiqui, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2021, Ami Vitale, photographer for National Geographic, Dan Winters, an icon of international photography, and Peter Mather, from the International League of Conservation Photographers. Four solo exhibitions dedicated to them will be set up in various locations in the historical centre of Siena and in Sovicille.
There will also be the Siena Awards group shows dedicated to the three photography awards - Siena International Photo Awards, Creative Photo Awards, Drone Photo Awards - with extraordinary shots and videos from all over the world.
During the SIPA award ceremony, famous photographers from all over the world will compete for the coveted Pangea trophy. This year, illustrious international guests, such as Steve Winter, Ami Vitale, Dan Winters, Kathy Moran, the historic head of photography at the US magazine National Geographic, as well as several photo editors from the world's leading newspapers, will attend the evening.
