The 33rd edition of the Florence Dance Festival is coming to Florence, from June 22 to July 24, in the wonderful Chiostro Grande of the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella. The title of this edition is WEAR ART, almost an appeal to return to embrace the live performance, to wrap oneself in art, to feel the warmth that the artist is capable of giving, to enjoy the formidable experience and universal communication of dance.
International guests, established dance companies and many emerging realities will perform in front of an amphitheatre-like audience and on a circular stage equipped with the best technology.
Israel Galvàn, considered the greatest interpreter of flamenco, will perform the award-winning show The Golden Age, with live music by talented musicians, singer David Lagos and Alfredo Lagos on guitar.
The Fondazione Nazionale della Danza/Aterballetto presents SHOOT ME, a new choreography by resident choreographer Diego Tortelli, and Bliss with choreography by Johan Inger.
The emerging company Equilibrio Dinamico, already present with great success last year, will present the show SUITE ESCAPE, with the signature of one of the most interesting names in Italian and European choreography, the award-winning choreographer Riccardo Buscarini, with live music by Benedetto Boccuzzi.
And again: the Nuovo Balletto di Toscana, artistic director Cristina Bozzolini, in When He Plays choreography by Daria Lidonnici, and Kinesis CDC by Angelo Egarese with the world premiere performance Who's next? - Ask yourself!. Gigi Nieddu with the Mystes Dance Company will present the new urban dance work entitled Deprivation, together with the latest ANTITESI by Arianna Benedetti and, from Tel Aviv, the most popular Israeli choreographer of the moment Lior Tavori in YOU LOVE IT.
The company of young dancers currently in residence at the Florence Dance will present a new production by choreographer Marga Nativo entitled 1943, which tells the story of Italian soldiers sent off to war. The evening will be completed with the Parisian company Cie Rue Serendip of Prunelle Bry and Tristan Bénon, as well as special guest Andrea Marino, Sicilian by origin, currently a soloist at the Munich Theatre and star of the new generation of dancers.
Lastly, more than 40 young artists and emerging companies will be on stage for an exciting second edition of Twilight in the Round, produced by the Call for Artists that saw 170 applications from emerging choreographers and companies from Europe and all over the world. 5 performances from June 30 to July 8, at 8 p.m.
The Florence Dance Festival opens with the Open Day in Music and Dance and the Florence Dance Platform, a platform with many talented young people on stage. A great evening will be reserved for the Meyer Children's Hospital Foundation ONLUS and La Milanesiana with Elisabetta Sgarbi. Completing the Performing Arts programme will be a contribution to Coldplay by the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, conducted by Giuseppe Lanzetta, with the formidable pianist Giuseppe Andaloro, and the Ensemble San Felice who, in collaboration with Konzert Opera Festival, will present the world premiere of Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria by Claudio Monteverdi, for an artistic ensemble of more than forty musicians, singers and dancers.
