A still-functioning instrument from the past

The mill of Menicone is the only intact water mill to be found in the municipality of Pescaglia. The centuries-old mill building dates back to the 17th century and is still functioning.

The Menicone Mill was part of the Palazzaccio farm, a 16th century villa owned by the Orsetti counts from Lucca. The mill was in operation until the 1980s and all the original equipment from the 19th century for the milling of wheat, maize and chestnuts remains. Some wooden gears have been replaced by iron ones, but the tradition of this trade remains unchanged.
