On the 3rd and 4th Sunday in August, Volterra jumps back in time to the Middle Ages: all the figures we know and love from the medieval era, from daring knights, noblemen and ladies to monks, friars, craftsmen and merchants, and of course, peasants, flag-bearers, archers, soldiers, jugglers, musicians and jesters, come together to cast a spell on festival goers as they bring back to life the many facets of Volterra in the Middle Ages.
From sunrise to sunset, the historic centre is enlivened with a past that has never died, and visitors are transported, as if by magic, back in time.
The highlight of the event is the“Giornata di Festa nell’Anno Domini 1398” which takes place on the 3rd and 4th Sunday in August. During these two days, Volterra as it was in the late 14th century is recreated with shows, events, markets, workshops, music, juggling, commoners and nobles.
This is a truly unique opportunity to immerse yourself, as if under a spell, in the magical world of the Middle Ages in one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany.
