Effetto Venezia: The Venetian Effect

Music, theatre, sport and free guided visits in the historic Livorno neighborhood

Every year, between July and August, Livorno hosts Effetto Venezia, a festival that is now a solid part of the Livornese summer and involves the old historic district of La Venezia, famous for its historic bridges and Medici canals.

The initiative’s program gets richer with every passing edition: there are appointments dedicated to music, theatre, wine and food, and others focused on literary cafes, exhibitions, sports demonstrations and workshops for children. Additionally, the audience can participate in various free guided visits, even aboard boats, to discover the many secrets of the city.

In addition to all the markets, lights and folk songs, onstage at Effetto Venezia many different artists and rock groups will light up the square. In recent years, some performers have included Carmen, Federica Carta, Bobo Rondelli, Snaporaz Sinfonico Honolulu and BFolks.

For more than thirty years the neighborhood of “Venezia”, its streets and canals have held this color and flavor-packed festival, dense with events, performances, culture and things to taste. Effetto Venezia is indeed a great excuse to sample all of the traditional dishes of the territory. Cacciucco, fresh fish-based first courses, ceci pancakes and, to finish off, a nice ponce alla livornese.

The Venezia Nuova neighborhood is the heart of the city, the true historic center of Livorno. Many of its architectural gems, churches, bridges and palazzos still conserve their old-fashioned charm.
