Capalbio International Film Festival

Masterclasses, workshops, brainstorming sessions and innovative events

The Capalbio International Film Festival takes place each year at the beginning of July, against the enchanting backdrop of the Tuscan Maremma. It is a cinema event of longstanding caliber; among its founders is the great Michelangelo Antonioni.

The festival began 20 years ago as a way to show the changing nature and needs of our planet through the use of myriad short films. Today it is a hub and something of an incubator for young talents at the very beginning of their success. Capalbio features a selection of super-high quality films and serves as an accelerator for major ideas that have been recognized by top-tier institutions.

The events are normally held in the locations of the Anfiteatro del Leccio, at the Cinema Tirreno, on the Spiagga della Dogana, and in Piazza Magenta. The packed program features international short films, premieres, experimental films in new cinema genres, meetings with authors and directors and masterclasses with special guests.

The festival is organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Sistema Toscana, supported by Mibac and the Tuscan Region; it also enjoys the support of Anica and all of the main industry organizations. Recently it acquired a highly prestigious new partner, the Sundance Institute, founded by Robert Redford, who chose Capalbio for the exclusive European edition of his famous Screenwriters Workshops.

Later it became the property of the Conti Orsini and in 1416 was annexed to the Sienese Republic. ...
