As we cycle, we cross one of the most charming valleys in Lunigiana: the Taverone Valley. The itinerary starts with a descent towards the villages of Taponecco and Tavernelle, with their centuries-old sandstone gates, bearing witness to the great skill of the stonecutters. From Tavernelle, we take a secondary road to reach Crespiano, famous for the Parish Church of Saint Mary of the Assumption, a true artistic masterpiece to be found in this part of Lunigiana. From Crespiano, head upwards using a dirt road until we arrive in Prati di Cisigliana, between the Taverone and Rosaro valleys. Then, after a stop, we begin the descent along a dirt road towards Fivizzano, the noble town of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, to be found along Via del Volto Santo and the Cerreto road. Here, we stop to visit the beautiful old town and to taste the typical China Clementi, a bitter produced by the Clementi Pharmacy in the village. From the old town of Fivizzano, using a panoramic road, we reach the villages of Turlago, Luscignano and Codiponte where we visit the marvellous Romanesque Parish Church with its sculpted capitals. We continue towards Monte dei Bianchi, a little sandstone village where time seems to stand still. We cycle towards Mezzana and then reach Equi Terme, famous for its Caves and thermal baths.
