Leave the town of Colle Val d’Elsa and head towards Volterra along the SS 68. After around 3 km, at Le Grazie, turn right towards San Gimignano (11 km). From here, continue uphill towards Castel San Gimignano where you should turn right back onto the SS 68 (direction Volterra) for around 3 km until the junction on the left for Casole d’Elsa, which you will reach after around 10 km.

From here, head towards Monteguidi (6.5 km with a final hill of 3 km), descending along the road that crosses the river Cecina, before beginning the ascent, slow at first and then more steep, towards the town of Montecastelli, crossing into the province of Pisa. From Montecastelli, head downhill towards Castelnuovo Val di Cecina; after 4km leave the Castelnuovo road and turn left onto the winding road to Radicondoli (12 km). The road first heads up to a bridge over the river Lucignano and then up to the hills of Radicondoli, a lovely medieval town far from the major roads with beautiful panoramic views.

From Radicondoli a quick and pleasant 2 kilometres downhill will take you to a crossroads. Here you should turn left following signs for Mensano (5.5 km) and then Casole d’Elsa. Before reaching the town turn right following signs for Colle Val d’Elsa; after 4km, at the T-junction with the SS 541; turn left and, after 11.5 km along the road which follows the river Elsa, you’ll find yourself back where you started.
