Summer in Tuscany is all about living the season to its fullest. Fresh and vibrant, Tuscany is full of things to do for all people of all ages. Here are ten events which absolutely cannot be missed: 1) Arezzo Wave Love Festival – July. More than 100 events including live music, theatre, literature, comic books, dance and much more. Guest artists coming from several countries around the world come together in one of Tuscany’s most evocative and charming cities, Arezzo.
2) Archaeological nights – July. The “Archaeological Nights” is an opportunity to get to know the rich archaeological heritage of Tuscany without missing the best parties of the summer! Different performances of theater, dance and music distributed over the course of the “Nights” and taking place in evocative Tuscan sites as Cortona, Sovana, Populonia and within the Archeomineral Park of San Silvestro. 3) Terre di Siena Festival – From June to September. Numerous initiatives in the city of Siena: the most charming piazzas and most stunning sites of the city and its hamlets will host performances, concerts, shows and exhibitions. Within them shows dedicated to popular theater, festivals (Musical Chigiana Summer, Montepulciano’s International Art Expo, the Val d’Orcia Festival, the San Galgano Opera Festival and the Sarteano Jazz and Blues Fest, the Misticanza of San Casciano Bagni Festival, the Live Rock Festival of Acquaviva of Montepulciano). The summer begins with the greatly anticipated Palio of Siena, held in the historic center of one of the most beautiful cities in the world. A historical tradition that dates back to 1633 and which the city relives bi-annually, the festivities take place in the splendid Piazza del Campo every 2nd of July and 16th of August and consist of an exciting race among the horses representing the different districts of the city. The winning team will celebrate along with the rest of the city with dinners and parties galore.
5) Florentine Summer – From June to September. There will be pop and rock concerts, theater, cinema and dance performances along the shores of the Arno river. The annual event welcomes locals and tourists, young and old, children and teenagers to participate in the wide array of events lined up. The events will take place in Parco delle Cascine and Cavea dell'Opera di Firenze. 6) Bolgheri Melody – July - August. Music, dance, theater, talk shows and art events will take place along in front of the most famous cypress trees in the world. Bolgheri will see a wide range of entertainment, which will take place in the Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta Arena, or as locals call it, the “Summer Temple of Melody”. This is the Festival of the coast of the Etruscans par excellence. A breathtaking site where you can enjoy a delightful mix of poetry and wine in the lands of the “Supertuscan”! 7) Mercantia – July. The Mercantia Festival takes place annually in the hamlet of Certaldo. The festival features performances rich in sentiment and artists who can transmit, renew and uplift audience members. An intense lineup of events which go from theater to artisanal markets, from contemporary art to live entertainment, without forgetting the breathtaking landscape which acts as scenic backdrop.
8-) Pistoia Blues – July. Since 1980, this festival takes the stage in the historic piazza Duomo in the city of Pistoia. 9) Lucca Summer Festival – July. This annual festival takes place in Lucca.
