Borgo di Ponticello

The village of Ponticello

A pretty village near Filattiera

The medieval village of Ponticello dates back to the XIV-XV century and it is situated approximately 3 kilometers from Filattiera. It is built around the Oratory of the Saints Rocco and Bernardo, founded in 1648. Its facade was originally turned towards the suburb, but in 1819, the oratory was restored and widened, and the facade constructed towards the street. The village is characterized by different styles of arches that connect the houses, and by the imposing X-XII century tower house. It is a typical fortified construction with three overlapped rooms. The entrance was on the first floor, reachable with retractable stairs. Every year the village celebrates the festival of "I mestieri del borgo": an event that revives all the ancient artisan crafts that used to be done here.
