Discover the region's floral jewels

Tuscany is home to some of the world's most enchanting and impressive art and culture; besides its artistic splendors, the Tuscan countryside both delights and surprises its visitors for its spellbinding colors and sights. Nature and flower lovers can embark on a number of journeys through Tuscany's so-called flower roads, enchanting places that offer the chance to see an incredible variety of flowers and plants. From the Apennines to the beaches of the Tuscan Archipelago, Tuscany boasts countless top-notch floral areas, from botanical gardens to museums and spacious parks.

Take a stroll along Lucca’s medieval walls to visit the Guinigi Tower and its sky-high garden, where the medieval city vaunts a delicate and colorful rooftop. Another walled city, Siena, famous for its Palio and charming medieval architecture, is also an important setting for rare floral species: head to the city's remarkable botanical gardens to see its gorgeous flower collection. 

Noble residences, Medicean villas and elegant gardens are scattered throughout the Mugello countryside, among which you’ll find the imposing Villa Demidoff in Pratolino and the villas of the Valle del Bisenzio. Here, don’t miss seeing the noteworthy Medicean Villa Poggio a Caiano.

For those who prefer higher altitudes, the Pistoia Apennines are scattered with mountainside botanical gardens and enchanting yet monumental trees. Other remarkable 'floral' journeys will take you to the islands of Elba and Capraia. If you love hiking, this is the place for you: explore the spectacular scenery boasting rare plants and flowers while exploring the golden coast.

Last but not least, check out the Maremma parklands, where from the hillside to the sea visitors will find a large range of ecosystems and a variety of rare and remarkable flora. The area can be explored either on foot or by bike.
