Leopold II of Lorraine wanted the racing track of San Rossore (called Prato degli Escoli) in 1829. The most prestigious race that takes place on this track is the Premio di Pisa. The circular track in the grass is 1,610 meters. The racecourse has two grandstands: one uncovered and another one covered. The capacity is about 10,000 seats. There are also a restaurant, four bars, a playground, a nursery, the ATM and a large car park.

In 2012 closed in order to give back the park to the municipality of Florence.
