This initiative is managed by Piombino’s Port Company
whose operators are prepared to accommodate travelers with special needs. They are accompanied to the embarkation area, after which they will be assisted by on-board personnel.
The same service is also carried out at Portoferraio and, it is not yet active at the port of Olbia, going toward Piombino.
By calling the special Contact Center’s toll-free number,
your request will be recorded and an operator will be scheduled to meet the traveler in the place specified, which can be the bus stop, the train terminal or at the entrance to the second means of transport used to arrive at the port. Alternatively, travelers can be met at the waiting points set up at Portoferraio and Piombino. There’s one in Piombino’s Piazzale Premuda (n. 1), in front of the parking space for disabled people.
The waiting room reserved for people with disabilities is equipped with air-conditioning and accessible bathrooms.
It also offers information regarding local transport lines and connections between Elba and Sardinia that are accessible to people with different handicaps. Support services are available following reservations made at least 24 hours in advance, every day, year-round at all departure/arrival points linked to a ferry. In the event that the reservation fails to occur, the company offers an emergency number (only for users with disabilities) to assist with arrival services at the port.
