Giardino Villa Marlia - Lucca

Medieval Lucca and its fun gay scene

Gay-friendly events in the heart of Tuscany

Lucca is the place to be for an active summer and winter gay scene. This is partly due to the proximity of Lucca to Torre del Lago, which attracts LGBT people.

This area is home to ahuge dance club, which has dedicated many evenings to the gay community over the years. Saturdays in the summer are the biggest and best night for the gay nightclub in Lucca, which is run by the staff of Florence’s own, Fairy Gold. The club is spacious and even features two outdoor swimming pools, as well as water games.

If you visit Lucca, take a walk along the long wall. Visit Lucca on a Saturday or Sunday and you will be amazed at the number of locals who are playing sports or doing other activities like jogging throughout the city.

SUMMER EVENTS
In July, the Summer Festival, a music event in piazza Napoleone takes place. The festival hosts concerts by celebrated international artists and attracts people from all over Italy.

Not just a beach town, Lucca’s inland area is home to a number of villages that you can either visit or rent for a special event. These villas are the perfect opportunity to enjoy a warm summer evening with friends. No visit to Lucca is complete without a stroll through the old town. Immerse yourself in the many streets filled with clothing shops, each one hard to resist. The narrow medieval street, via Fillungo, is one of the most historic parts of the city. Via Fillungo features the largest stores in the city, making it the perfect spot for an afternoon of shopping in Lucca.

WINTER EVENTS
Even when the summer ends, Lucca is still a great place to visit. In fact, the city hosts the most important national comic festival in Italy:Lucca Comics & Games. It is home to various works by gay and hetero Italian and foreign publishers. If you are a fan of comics, you are even encouraged to dress up as  your favourite character!
