March 21-22: art, culture and spring

Spring brings back the event “The Spring Days”, organized by FAI (the Italian non-profit foundation for the protection and management of the country's artistic and natural heritage). A big “party” involving locals and tourists, that takes place on "the most beautiful stage in the world." For the occasion, normally closed and inaccessible places will be exceptionally open to allow us all to discover churches, villages, villas and palaces, archaeological areas and gardens. Many special events, special openings and guided tours have been planned for the occasion also in Tuscany. A not-to-be-missed event will take place in Pisa, more precisely at the Certosa of Calci, one of the most important monasteries of the Certosine order in Italy. A special place normally not accessible. (Saturday 2.30-6.30pm, Sunday 9.30am-6.30pm)

In Florence, there will be the opportunity to discover two little known gems: the Marucelliana Library (Saturday and Sunday 10am-4pm) and the Corsini Villa in Castello.

Just outside Florence, in Scandicci, is scheduled the opening of the Mill of Conti Galli Tassi, an example of industrial architecture of the seventeenth century that has become almost invisible due to the vegetation that covers it. The Vai Palace in Prato and the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Monteriggioni, which dates back to 1105 and has fourteenth-century frescoes, will be exceptionally open. In Lucca the star will be the aqueduct Nottolini, a true work of art created in Roman style in 1800. (Saturday 2-6pm, Sunday 10.30am-12.30pm and 2.30-6pm; guided tours also in English) acquedotto Nottolini In Pescaglia (Lucca), do not miss the visit of a place that boasts a world record: the Teatrino of Vetriano, the smallest public theater in the world, with its 71 square meters. Combine art, culture, spring and nature: visit the Botanical Garden of the Apuan Alps or go cycling (in Florence, in Grosseto, or along the road from Arezzo to Cortona). INFO: giornatefai.it (ITA)
