It was a challenge to achieve the right to host the 2013 UCI World Championships, but now it's official. The UCI Management Committee announced the awarding of the event to Florence after a meeting in Melbourne on Wednesday. Here in Tuscany we are all very happy to host this important annual event for the first time! Florence beat rival bids like Genoa (Italy), Hooglede-Gits (Belgium) and Ponferrada (Spain). “It’s a victory for Italian cycling,” said the president of the Italian Cycling Federation Renato di Rocco. “It’s a victory for Tuscany’s great cycling tradition. It’s a victory for Franco Ballerini. It’s a victory for the great sage Alfredo Martini.”

The week of racing

Lucca
Lucca
The course of the men's road race starts in Lucca on Sunday, September 29th. Competitors are going to have the opportunity to admire Lucca walls that celebrates 500 years. My advice is that you arrive some days before to enjoy all the beauties of Lucca like the Guinigi tower. The race continues in direction to Montecatini Alto, then San Baronto, Casalguidi and Florence.
