Abetone Ski Resort

Tucked away in the Pistoia Apennines

The Abetone ski resort includes territories belonging to the municipalities of Abetone and Cutigliano and its main center is located on the Abetone, the most important winter sports station in Central Italy. Known throughout the world for its natural beauty, the area generated great champions like Zeno Colò, Celina Seghi and Vittorio Chierroni.

Abetone, located on the pass bordering Tuscany and Emilia, along State Road 12 of the Abetone and Brennero highways, hosts a vast pine forest. The altitude of its skiing area reaches 1,900 meters and it stretches for over 80 km. Home to the Cimone and the Corno alle Scale in the Emilian Apennines, it is the largest skiing network in the Mediterranean area.  Its territory includes four splendid valleys: Val di Luce, Valle dello Scotenna, Valle del Sestaione and Valle Lima.

The ski area has been renovated recently and it currently includes 26 ski-lifts serving 42 slopes boasting various levels of difficulty. The facility’s numerous snow-machines have the capacity to cover 40% of its ski slopes even in climactic conditions lacking natural snow. The area also includes three cross-country slopes with rings that stretch for 19 km. With four renowned ski schools, the area employs up to 100 ski instructors and supports five ski-camps. In the surrounding area including San Marcello Pistoiese, Gavinana and Maresca, there are many hotels, tourist resorts, alpine lodges, B&Bs and campgrounds. The area also boasts ample typical restaurants as well as pizzerias and covered swimming pools.
