San Gimignano in summer never stops. Throughout July and August and into October, the city and its surroundings come alive with Accade d'Estate (It happens in Summer), the festival that brings concerts, performances, art exhibitions and guided tours to the World Heritage City.
Music finds its stage in evocative locations. The Church of San Pietro in Forliano will be the backdrop for classical music concerts, while the Montestaffoli Fortress will host a variety of genres: from pop to opera, from songwriting to gypsy melodies. Not to be missed are the concerts in tribute to Ludovico Einaudi and Fabrizio de André (July 11 and 21), as well as the performance Suor Angelica, an opera by maestro Puccini, which will take place at the evocative Pieve di Cellole, the place where it was originally conceived (July 25).
Music and wine come together in a new Taste in Jazz event, which combines the aroma of Vernaccia with a live performance by Frida Bollani Magoni (August 27).
Also starring are the walks, to discover San Gimignano at a slow pace. A unique experience is the Sound Walk through the streets of San Gimignano by night (Saturday, July 22). There is no shortage of guided tours of Castelvecchio and the Crypt of Badia a Elmi.
Art lovers will not want to miss the ninth edition of the Orizzonti Verticali Festival (Vertical Horizons) (August 3 to 5) and the Artistika Festival (August 13 and 14), while the fourth edition of the Francigena Film Festival is a must-see event for film lovers (August 31 to September 2).
The Accade d'Estate festival is organized by the City of San Gimignano, in collaboration with the Pro Loco offices, and promoted as part of the San Gimignano project: with the eyes of the city, look, tell and respect the World Heritage Site, funded by the Ministry of Tourism.
