The Palio of Livorno is one of the most characteristic events of the city of Livorno. This trophy concludes the rowing season, a series of competitions and races at sea that express the soul, history and tradition of Livorno.
At the Palio, which takes place every year after the Risiatori and Barontini race, 8 districts compete on the gozzi, typical ten-oared boats, with 8 rowers and a helmsman, able to coordinate and encourage the team. For about 10 minutes, sweat, competitive spirit, sport and friendship merge, pouring into the sea hours of exercise and tests that the athletes carry out throughout the year.
The athletes of the winning district will receive the cups and a lap of honor along the Fossi, to celebrate together with the fans at the Voltone.
The best place to admire the Palio is from the Mascagni Terrace, the huge chessboard terrace overlooking the sea.
The Palio Marinaro takes place on Saturday, July 2, from 5.30 pm.
