The series begins on Pasquetta, Monday, April 22 (Easter Monday), with Buonconvento, home of the Regional Antiques Fair. The train will depart from Siena, passing through Asciano and Monte Antico, and arriving at noon in the fortified village of Buonconvento, where the antiques fair will be taking place.
Traveling by steam train and passing through the most beautiful landscapes of the Siena area, from the hills of the Crete Senesi to the Parco della Val d’Orcia is a dreamlike experience that’s available via the Nature Train (Treno Natura), the old-fashioned train convoy that returns each spring with numerous chances to discover the Siena area’s villages.
Sunday, April 28 the train heads to San Quirico d’Orcia for the Orcia Wine Festival: participants will have the chance to visit the town center along the via Francigena, participate in a festival dedicated to wine and a hiking route leading all the way to Bagno Vignoni.
On April 25 the Nature Train will stop in Castiglione d’Orcia for the Spring Festival. Travelers will have the chance to visit the Rocca and the historic center, which will be holding a market of artisan goods and traditional local products.
On Wednesday May 1 the Nature Train will cross through the Arbia and Ombrone valleys to arrive in Sant’Angelo, in the town of Montalcino, to celebrate the Maggiolata festival. Visitors will have the chance to visit the Cantine Banfi, participate in a lunch organized by the Pro Loco and, in the afternoon, to visit the small market set up in the village, where folklore groups and musical bands will perform.
Sunday, May 12 the steam train will go to Asciano for the Mercatino delle Crete Senesi, which will host a special edition dedicated to pecorino and a fair-exhibition of organic products. Sunday, May 19 will take passengers to Torrenieri for the Festa del Treno (Train Festival); the small village along the via Francigena will host a market of traditional and artisanal products and there will be chances to visit Brunello wineries and participate in countryside hikes.
The last two stops of the spring season of the nature Train will be on Sunday, May 26 in Chiusi, to discover the ancient Etruscan city, and on June 2, a return to Asciano for the Agricete fair, dedicated to agriculture and natural products.
