Restarting has a date: Sunday May 16. On that day, not only will the Sansepolcro Civic Museum reopen, the treasure trove of priceless works that's a destination for thousands of tourists will launch the great exhibition event of 2021, intending to repeat the success of that dedicated to Banksy.
"FRIDA KAHLO, A life in images" is the exhibition promoted by the Municipality of Sansepolcro and organized by 'Civita Mostre e Musei' and 'Diffusione Italia International Group'. It will be open to the public in the Civic Museum of Sansepolcro from May 16 to November 14, 2021.
The photographic exhibition focused on Frida Kahlo pays homage to the much-loved artist, embodying one of those instances in which art and biography intersect inextricably, creating something unique.
To say that Kahlo was a symbol of her time (early-mid twentieth century), and of her country (Mexico), during a period of fervent social struggles, is certain but also an understatement. Frida is now a symbolic figure and a contemporary icon, with her art manifesting extraordinary female determination, outside of any space-time coordinates. Her artistic genius is evident in works that show suffering, and torment yet lightness such as in the work depicting a ribbon wrapped around a bomb. As Breton said, she represents the mirrored faces of an out-of-the-ordinary existence.
The exhibition dedicated to Frida Kahlo perfectly completes the trilogy of exhibitions which began with Mc Curry and continued with Banksy, who, although different, fascinate young people, drawing them to the Piero della Francesca Museum.
